GeekGal L.A.M.B. UltraViolet Leather Clutch

Lambx
There is a huge gap in the market for fashion-forward gadget accessories. The iPhone is the sexist phone in history, and most of the cases for it look like they were designed by the nerd patrol. That’s why I was so delighted to see Gwen Stefani’s L.A.M.B. line had Apple gear! The prices are very reasonable, and the look is tough and functional. Is this a product line a girl can get behind, or a cheap cash-in on Stefani’s gal cred?

The bag that caught my eye was the UltraViolet Leather Clutch, a small bag that’s designed for your iPhone, and not much else. GeekGal has often lamented the absence of designer bags that will easily accommodate her iPhone, as many of her favorite lines of purses think we’re still living in the ancient days of dumbphones. It arrived from the Apple Store in just a week, so GeekGal took it for a test drive.
The Good -

This is a very high quality clutch. The look is rock gal glam! I love the functionless zipper detail on the side and the high energy neon. The leather is buttery soft. On the inside, the bag is divided into two sections - one for your iPhone, and the other for your gear. The phone is held in one compartment in a clear plastic panel - so you can see who is calling you by unzipping the bag. There’s a wrist strap dangling off the zipper that feels quite secure.

GeekGal likes the weight and feel of this bag greatly. The endless Boston winter broke yesterday, and she hopped on her Vespa for rejuvenation - L.A.M.B. clutch in tow. It was really awesome to have all my gear dangling on my wrist. If your daily gear is minimalistic, this is a wonderful clutch.

The Bad -

This would be GeekGal’s daily go-to bag if it were just a little larger. As it is, every time I use it, there are huge compromises in what to bring. I really wish my Sena iPhone wallet would fit in this clutch with my keys. As it is, your iPhone will have to party naked if you want to use this bag.

I guess it all comes down to how you carry your iPhone. GeekGal usually gets by with just her iPhone wallet and keys, so she’s definitely down with minimalism. But, having my iPhone unprotected is not something I’m comfortable with. I’ve dropped it too many times and had it saved with my Sena case. Have you ever seen an iPhone with a cracked screen? The only thing uglier than the shattered glass is shelling out $199 to repair it. Is it a risk you’re comfortable with?

Conclusion -

This is a really good looking clutch, but it’s not going to carry your iPhone in a case and your keys. If that’s a sacrifice you can make, and you’re down with the rocker look - go for it. The quality is far greater than the paltry $99 price tag.
